Your Role

As a Finance & Compliance Manager your role will serve as the in-country Finance, Compliance, and Operations lead for eSwitch's Zambian entities (eSwitch Zambia Limited and EFT Corporation Zambia Limited), responsible for overseeing regional financial operations (budgeting, reporting, and strategic planning), supporting the Head of Group Compliance with statutory and company secretarial duties including regulatory reporting and record-keeping, and managing day-to-day operational administration (procurement, inventory, banking, and premises) while acting as custodian of the statutory licences and regulatory credentials needed to keep eSwitch's Bank of Zambia payment system operator licence and related national payment system permissions in good standing.

What You’ll Do

Financial Management:

  • Ensure compliance of financial records with company policies, accounting standards, and governmental regulations.
  • Ensure a robust financial control environment that effectively mitigates the risk of losses or reporting errors.    
  • Partner and assist the business with identifying financial control issues and assist in the designing of controls to mitigate these risks.  
  • Annual financial statements, payroll taxes, company annual filings.  
  • Strive for a clean audit result with no outstanding items.
  • Coordinate monthly client invoicing, billing and statements of account, ensuring a signed Service/Retainer Agreement is in place before billing; support debtors management including preparation of periodic debtors ageing and client follow-up.
  • Assist in validating cost-plus pricing on client proposals and contract renewals against fully loaded cost, escalating margin exceptions to the Group Financial Controller/MD for sign-off.
  • Coordinate application of Group transfer pricing and billing policy to determine whether transactions are invoiced via the Mauritius entity or settled locally, escalating unclear or borderline cases to the Group Financial Controller for a ruling; support the annual transfer pricing exercise with external auditors, and prepare/present financial reports at Finance Committee and Board meetings.

Financial Reporting:

  • Interpret and analyse financial data for decision-making purposes.
  • Generate financial reports covering budgets, payables, receivables, and expenses.
  • Develop, review, and monitor budgets, while tracking and analysing budget discrepancies.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency enhancement.
  • Prepare documentation for annual financial audits and liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
  • Summarize financial status through balance sheets, income statements, and other financial reports.
  • Produce accurate monthly and quarterly financial reports within set deadlines.
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including invoicing, payments, and cash flow management.

Procurement and Office Administration:

  • Facilitate customer/supplier onboarding.  
  • Adherence to procurements policies.  
  • Purchase orders.  
  • Employee expense management
  • Petty cash management and reconciliations
  • Bank account correspondence. Assist with walk-in correspondences in the branch.
  • obtain quotations for office equipment
  • Manage postal/courier correspondence and prepare periodic premises and utilities reporting required for investor or Group purposes.
  • manage relationship with the building management/landlord.

Payroll Management:

  • Review of payroll data/system for completeness and accuracy as part of employee onboarding/offboarding, increase cycles, etc.  
  • Reporting that is consistent and reconcilable across multiple disciplines and reporting areas.  
  • Payroll payments are valid, accurate and complete.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and analyze inventory valuation and stock-related costs (e.g., holding costs, shrinkage).  
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting of stock on the balance sheet.  
  • Manage provisions for obsolete, damaged, or slow-moving stock  
  • Oversee periodic stock takes and cycle counts.  
  • Investigate discrepancies between physical stock and system records.  
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and audit requirements.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Collaborate with management and executives to share insights and support decision-making.
  • Engage in strategic data analysis, research, and modelling for senior leadership.

Strategic Financial Planning:

  • Analyse costs, pricing, sales outcomes, and actual performance against business plans.
  • Forecast future financial performance and develop strategies for financial growth and risk management.

Tax Compliance:

  • Ensure tax returns are accurately prepared and submitted on time to avoid penalties.
  • Prepare and file monthly and annual statutory tax returns (including income tax, VAT, withholding tax, and payroll-related statutory contributions), and obtain tax clearance and compliance certificates as required. Manage tax authority account administration, including registration changes and refund claims following audit completion.

Compliance & Company Secretarial:

  • Keep abreast of new regulatory developments.
  • Maintain eSwitch's Bank of Zambia payment system operator licence in good standing - including licence renewals, periodic regulatory returns, and any required annual self-attestation submissions - and act as the entity's registered point of contact for regulator notifications and examinations, including supporting the necessary vetting and clearance for any change in the finance officer of record.

What We’re Looking For

  • Professional accounting qualification and registered member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).  
  • Must hold a valid Zambian National Registration Card (NRC) and a Zambian-registered mobile number, required for identity verification and One-Time-Password (OTP) access on local statutory, regulatory and banking platforms.  
  • Willingness to undergo Bank of Zambia vetting and police criminal clearance, as required for the finance officer of record for a BoZ-licensed payment system operator (eSwitch).
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles & procedures.
  • 5-8 years of accounting experience is required.
  • Proficiency in the Sage accounting software is advantageous.
  • Good knowledge of different business functions.
  • Proven experience as a Finance Manager.
  • This role requires exceptional communication skills for engaging stakeholders at all levels, proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and strong strategic planning and forward-thinking abilities.  
  • Candidates need demonstrated leadership and organisational skills, along with negotiation and conflict resolution expertise.  
  • The position demands flexibility to work across different time zones for international business, comfort collaborating with senior stakeholders, and the ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines all underpinned by strong attention to detail.
  • This person should be analytical and systematic, with strong problem-solving skills to detect and investigate fraudulent patterns through structured, methodical processes.
  • They need to be agile breaking down tasks and adapting to feedback and changing circumstances along with excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.  
  • A strong ethical foundation and intellectual curiosity about emerging fraud trends are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
